Privacy and cookies
What we collect, why, and how to get it back or have it deleted. Written to be read, not to be scrolled past.
The company behind this site
Malta by Car is a brand of NovaDrive Service Centre Ltd, 89 Triq Il-Mastrudaxxa, Ħal Qormi, Malta. Company registration C 116377, VAT MT32937930. We are the data controller for everything described here.
For anything on this page — a copy of your data, a correction, a deletion — write to bookings@malta-by-car.com or call +356 9905 6366.
Cookies, plainly
If you decline the banner, this site sets no cookies at all. Nothing is stored for advertising, nothing is shared with Google, and the site works exactly as it does otherwise. Declining costs you nothing.
Two things happen regardless of the banner, because neither leaves your browser:
- Your booking in progress — dates, chosen car and extras are held in your browser's own storage so you do not lose them between steps. It is cleared when you close the tab.
- Where you arrived from — if you came via a link carrying campaign tags, we note them in the same browser storage so that a booking can be matched to the advert that prompted it. Also cleared when the tab closes.
If you accept, we load Google Analytics 4, which sets its own cookies to recognise a returning browser and to measure which pages lead to bookings. We have IP anonymisation switched on. You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser; the banner will then ask again.
What we collect when you book
To hold a car we need enough to identify the driver and reach you:
- Name, email address and telephone number of the main driver.
- Age, because the rate and eligibility depend on it — drivers must be 21 to 75, and under-25s pay a young-driver fee.
- Flight number, if you give one, so we can track the arrival and wait if it is late.
- Your booking — dates, location, car class, extras and the price quoted.
- Anything you type in the notes field. Please do not put licence numbers, card details or passport numbers there; we never ask for them on this website.
We do not take payment on this site. No card details are ever entered here or held by us — the deposit is pre-authorised in person at pick-up, on the card you bring.
Why we are allowed to hold it
- To perform the contract you asked for: your name, contact details, age and booking. Without these we cannot hire you a car.
- Consent, for analytics cookies — freely given through the banner, and withdrawable.
- Legitimate interests, for keeping the booking record itself and for basic security logging that keeps the site standing up.
- Legal obligation, where tax and accounting rules require a record of a transaction to be kept.
Who else sees it
We do not sell your data and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. It reaches only the parties that make the service work:
- Resend — sends your confirmation email and voucher. It handles your name, email and booking details.
- Google Analytics — only if you accepted the banner, and only browsing behaviour. It is never given your name, email or telephone number.
- Hetzner — hosts the site and the booking database, on servers in Europe.
Because Malta by Car is a brand of NovaDrive Service Centre Ltd, your booking is handled by that same company and its staff, at the address above.
How long we keep it
- Booking records — kept for as long as tax and accounting rules require a record of the transaction.
- Enquiries that never became bookings — kept only while they are useful, then removed.
- Analytics — held by Google under its own retention settings, and it never contains your name.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to how we are using it, or ask for it in a portable form. Write to bookings@malta-by-car.com and we will answer within one month.
If you think we have handled your data badly and we have not put it right, you can complain to the Information and Data Protection Commissioner in Malta, at idpc.org.mt.
Ask us directly.
A real person in Ħal Qormi answers, and questions about your own data go to the front of the queue.
